G. Tanoulis: «I want to reciprocate for the trust put in me»

Before he even turned 21, (his birthday is on July 27), Giorgos Tanoulis got to actualize one big dream of his: He signed a four year contract with Olympiacos. However, his mere presence in the roster of the Greek double crown winners is not enough for him. As he stressed to OlympiacosBC.gr, he’s determined to give 1000% to prove those who put their trust in him right.

  • Last season, you showed your credentials playing for Promitheas and only a few days ago you joined Olympiacos, a team that has been a consistent protagonist in the Euroleage scene. What are your feelings?

“I’m very happy and excited. Every kid my age dreams to join such a team at some point. So, I’m very happy this has happened to me and I have the chance to experience it!”

  • What are your goals?

“My one and only goal is to work beyond my limits each day, give 1000% and vindicate coach Bartzokas, the coaching staff and the organization of Olympiacos for investing in me. I would like to reciprocate the trust they’ve all put in me”.

  • Had you imagined when starting with basketball, that you would be with a team of that level at 21?

“Every kid that takes up basketball aims to play at the top level and I’m no exception. Truth is I hadn’t expected for that to happen that fast, however, from the moment it happened, I’m extremely happy and ready to do whatever it takes to prove I deserve being with Olympiacos”.  

  • You had been team-mates with Michalis Lountzis. Did you two talk following the signing of your new contract? Is he the one to help you get acclimated?

“We have developed a very good and close friendship with Michalis through our co-existing with Promitheas. He’s one of the people I consider to be very good friends. Our relationship transcends basketball. We have daily contact. We definitely talked before signing, as well as afterwards. He has already welcomed me on the team. For me, he’s one of the best, if not THE best guy in Greek basketball! I know that I’m going to have someone so close to me since day one on the team and this is definitely going to help me a lot”.
