In regard to the statement he made about Panathinaikos, Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos said “(I don’t know the statement made. The first derby of the season between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos will be taking place at the end of December and Mr. Angelopoulos was asked about it. “I think this is good for basketball. The thing is not just when we are playing, the thing is to play with fans in the gym, not to have violent incidents, for the officiating to be impeccable, for the teams not to tax-evade, no doping incidents whatsoever. The thing is to have an up to the standards league. Not to have any violence, not to have indecent behavior, play the game well, now as for when we play, it’s good to be playing towards the end, but this is only secondary” Mr. Angelopoulos answered.
As for whether any action has been taken on behalf of Olympiacos to solve the issues Mr. Angelopoulos has talked about, the co-owner of the Piraeus team said that “yes, there have been many discussions and actions, we are looking forward to the new athletic law that’s been processed at the moment and many of this issues are going to be dealt with”.
Finally, in regard to the absence of Panionios from the new League, Mr. Angelopoulos stated that: “I think it’s very unfortunate for such a historic team like Panionios, but we are all aware of the details in regard to that”.
