The ‘reds’ were extremely nervous and off target at the beginning (0/7 threes), which Monaco took advantage of closing the first quarter at +7 (8-15). Giorgos Bartzokas’ players though were quick to attack back. With Kostas Sloukas organizing and facilitating, Shaquielle McKissic executing and with a consistently good defense, Olympiacos ran a partial 25-7 that sent them to +11 (33-22) at 19’ and allowed them to maintain complete control up until the end of the first half (33-26).
Monaco put pressure in the defense and tried to return to the game (35-30, however, with Mike James lacking rhythm (an excellent defensive job on him at first by Walkup and then by Papanikolaou) and Thomas Walkup on a scoring spree, they were not able to pull it through! Olympiacos stepped on the gas (44-30 at 26’) and closed the 3rd quarter at +14 (50-36). Relying on their good perimeter percentages, Bartzokas’ players maintained absolute control throughout the game (65-50 at 36’) and got a comfortable win.
