Returning from Munich with a win!
Olympiacos continues flying high altitudes! The ‘reds’ beat Bayern in Munich 98-88, for the 28thday of the Euroleague, taking one more decisive step towards the playoffs.
Relying on Tyler Dorsey and Thomas Walkup, Olympiacos was leading by 8 points (8-16) after only four minutes of game time. The hosts took advantage of our team’s defensive weaknesses and running a partial 9-1 tied the game 17-17 at 6’. A fired up Dorsey stepped on the accelerator and once again put distance between Olympiacos and the opponent (7p., 17-24 at 7’), however, turnovers and dysfunction in the defense allowed Bayern to turn the tables and get ahead 29-28.
Shooting good percentages, the German team imposed its tempo and gained a +10 lead (50-40 at 18’). But the ‘reds’ reflexes were working well… They put pressure in the back court, went to good choices when attacking and closed in to two points (50-48). Walden hit Bayern’s 7th three (in a total of 14 attempts) and made the score 53-48, before Kostas Sloukas shaped the 53-50 that marked the end of the first half.
In the second half, the ‘reds’ significantly upped their defense, when at the same time Tyler Dorsey was scoring relentlessly. With him running point and Sasha Vezenkov following, Olympiacos set the tempo and built a +7 margin (64-71).
The home team did not give up the fight… The former ‘red’, Augustine Rubit, fought hard to keep his team within the game (79-82 at 35’), but with good defense and scoring pluralism, Bartzokas’ players dominated the game and easily got the win.
The quarters: 29-28, 53-50, 69-73, 88-98.
