Argyris Kampouris was born in 1962 in Astypalea but grew up in Piraeus where he became a basketball player through the Olympiacos junior teams.
Argyris Kampouris was born in 1962 in Astypalea but grew up in Piraeus where he became a basketball player through the Olympiacos junior teams.
He joined the men's team of Olympiacos in 1979 and one year later he was sent on loan to Glyfada by terms of the transfer of Giannis Paragios. He came back to Olympiacos next season, where he stayed until 1995 winning three championships (1993, 1994, 1995) and a Greek Cup (1994) as the team captain.
In the 1995-96 season he wore the Peristeri shirt, where he finished his athletic career.
Undoubtedly, the most important moment in his career, had been the 1987 Eurobasket, when during the final against the Soviet Union he made both free throws at the end of the game and gave the trophy to the Greek National Team, with which he has also won a silver medal in the Yugoslavia Eurobasket in 1989. In the 10 years he had played for the National team, he played in three European Championships (1987, 1989, 1991) and in two World
Championships (1986, 1990), playing 126 games and scoring a total of 529 points. He started his coaching career with the Agios Anargyros team, which he led from the local championships to the 3rd National Division, while he has also worked in Egaleo, Elefsina and Nike Amaroussiou. He has been working with the junior teams of Olympiacos in the past few years as a technical advisor.
